Mixmaster Morris
- returning to Bristol after 15 years
MIXMASTER MORRIS
Mixmaster Morris is an underground legend who hardly needs any introduction. Morris started The Irresistible Force in '87 and made two very collectible early singles. He developed a live acid house concept into The Madhouse (1988), which was widely credited as the first live techno event in London. He joined up with The Shamen at the end of '89, creating the highly acclaimed Synergy club, which toured the UK and Europe for over two years. Morris supported The Orb at many of their early shows, and other bands including Spiritualized & System 7 but it was by the end of the 90’s that his DJing career really took off, with his residency at Glastonbury Festival (warming up for The Prodigy, Chemical Brothers & Stereolab among others); and his legendary performances at the world’s largest techno event Love Parade in Berlin (where he has played more than any other UK DJ).
Aided by his own page in Mixmag Magazine he is the world’s undisputed leading authority on chillout / electronica, indeed, many of the leading electronic acts had their first press coverage courtesy of the Mixmaster: Aphex Twin, Ken Ishii, Black Dog, Orbital, Atom Heart, Bedouin Ascent and more recently T Power, Squarepusher, Dot Records and Jimpster. No wonder the late John Peel named him as his 'natural successor.' Yet again he has been nominated for the prestigious Ibiza DJ Awards Best Experimental/Chillout DJ category which he first won back in 1999.
Morris is currently hard to catch in the UK, following a hectic international schedule of gigs, festivals, radio shows and studio sessions which makes his Amphibian appearance in Bristol all the more special.
Amphibian present two rooms of experimental electronica, dub, chillout and ambient atmospherics in a perfect visual setting created by the UKs leading UV decor crew Tribe Of Frog.
Amphibian is a charity event in aid of The Yeleni Centre for Cancer & Chronic Illness - The centre provides free therapies by staff trained at the Bristol Cancer Centre.
